| CDs are screen printed, using the Pantone®
Matching System (PMS) color chart. (Use Pantone®
Solid Coated colors only; we are unable to print Uncoated or Process Pantone®
colors on disc.)
Three-color printing is included in the price. However, the maximum
number of colors that can be printed is five. Printing dimensions
are provided below. Artwork must fall inside these parameters.
Especially important is the inner knockout for the “stacking ring.”
If artwork covers this area, we must make adjustments and your order
may be delayed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: CD label artwork is silk-screened at 110 lines-per-inch
(LPI). Because printing on the disc is a screen printing process
like t-shirts, and uses a larger line screen than that used on a traditional
printing press, detail will not be as fine as that achieved on the insert
printing.
The recommended minimum type size is 6 point. Minimum reverse type
size is 6 point bold.
LOW PERCENTAGE SCREEN TINTS: The acceptable halftone dot range
is 15% minimum - 85% maximum. Ranges above or below these guidelines may
not print, may be invisible to the eye, or cause undesired patterns. Consider
using a lighter solid spot color rather than a low screen tint to produce
a "ghosted" image. DROP OUT TEXT: Avoid dropping text
out of all halftones, including process color (CMYK) images. Text may
appear "choppy" or unreadable due to the limitations of dot size.
The disc base is reflective aluminum and provides a different medium
from that of white paper. Please keep this in mind when choosing colors,
especially if one color is to be printed over another. We recommend
that colors ‘knock out’ of each other, rather than overprint.
When using knockout printing on overlaying colors, a minimum line
width of .25 point (.5 stroke) overlap is required as a ‘trap’ to prevent
the silver disc base showing between the overlaying pieces of film.
If a CMYK image is used for the disc printing, a white background plate
is recommended. This will result in five colors being printed, with
the white on the bottom, covering up the silver of the disc itself.
Without the white background, the silver of the disc causes the image
to appear washed out and colors will not appear correctly.
Changes or repairs made to the original files or film will result in
additional graphics charges. Adjustments are charged at the rate of
$75 per hour, half hour minimum. |
